According to Entertainment Weekly , O'Connor wrote her letter in response to a recent interview with Cyrus magazine Rolling Stone , which admits that the famous video of the Irish singer “Nothing Compares 2 U” (1989) was the source of inspiration for Wrecking Ball .

Indeed, in both songs, love and fidelity is sung, in both clips there are large plans of the singers with tears in their eyes, but this ends: in his video, Miley Cyrus kisses with a sledgehammer and rides naked on the demolition of buildings.
