The British Foreign Ministry and Greenpeace intend to seek the liberation of the arrested activists on bail

The British Foreign Ministry intends to seek from the Russian authorities to be released on the bail of arrested Greenpeace activists and an environmental organization. This, as ITAR-TASS reports, said Greenpeace Executive Director John Suwven after a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Great Britain William Haig.

According to Sowan, the head of the foreign policy promised to discuss with representatives of the Russian authorities the situation around activists arrested when trying to land on the oil platform in the Pechora Sea.

"In particular, we discussed what actions he (Hage) can take in the interests of six arrested British to improve the conditions in which they contain," Suwven said.

“We also considered the question of what joint work Greenpeace and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Commonwealth can be carried out to contribute to the release of the arrested on bail,” said the executive director of the organization. “I thanked the minister for the help that consular workers provided six arrested (British) in Murmansk.”

After the meeting of Sowan and Heiga, the British Foreign Ministry made an official statement about the situation around the detained activists of Greenpeace. “We continue to maintain close contact with all countries whose citizens were involved in this, and we will make an idea to the Russian authorities as necessary,” the words of the head of the foreign policy in the document are given.

"He (Heig) said that Forin Office maintains contacts with the Russian authorities and will continue to raise the questions that bother Greenpeace about compliance with proper legal procedures and about the well -being of the arrested," the statement said.
