Germany rejected the proposal of Assad to become an intermediary in Syria

Germany rejected the proposal to play the role of an intermediary in the Syrian conflict, voiced by the country's president Bashar Assad . The US Foreign Minister emphasized that Berlin supports the efforts of the UN special representative and lag in Syria and other intermediaries.

The Foreign Minister of Germany Gido Westerwell excluded the possibility of Germany’s participation in the settlement of the Syrian conflict as an intermediary. Earlier, Syria President Bashar Assad suggested that Germany could take on the role of an intermediary. In an interview with Spiegel magazine, he again denied the involvement of the regime in Damascus in a chemical attack at the end of August. In this regard, Westerwell subjected to criticism, emphasizing that lies and denials do not contribute to the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Syria.
