Thus begins the report of human rights activists from the Human Rights Council (HRC), who went to the Mordovian colony to understand why Nadia Tolokonnikova, who had not previously complained about anything, suddenly announced a hunger strike.

Strange human rights

The reports of the operatives, the statements of the deputy head of the colony by the local prosecutor about blackmail from the lawyer and husband Tolokonnikova, who demanded to transfer Nadia to another detachment - all this is published by human rights activists. Several pages of operational materials - and only then an interview with Tolokonnikova, an interview with other convicts, many of whom confirm Nadi's words.

In the final part - before the recommendations - there is an amazing record: “We believe that the hunger strike of the convicted Tolokonnikova was planned in advance, organized and coordinated from outside in the same way as information support on the Internet and the media .../ The arrival of the HRC’s working group, apparently, was also planned in advance.”

When you read this report, it seems that Elena Masyuk, Maria Cannabikh, Evgeny Moslovsky signal the FSIN leaders signing it: they used us, do not be offended, please, if we criticize you a little.

Indeed, members of the HRC criticize the leadership of the colony. But they do it somehow “bashfully”. They recommend “stopping the practice of coercive convicts to work over an eight -hour working day, as well as on Sundays”, “replace the old, often breaking sewing equipment with a new one, transfer Tolokonnikov to easier work, send it to the hospital.” As for the threats of the murder by the deputy chief of the colony addressed to Nadia and other terrible facts mentioned in her letter, the human rights activists do not write anything about them. Stockholm syndrome?

I perfectly imagine how it happens, I myself had to literally tweet myself so as not to become a victim of this very syndrome. You sit, human rights activist, in the office of the head of the pre -trial detention center or colony, and a pretty person, without horns and hooves, tells you how hard it is for him to serve in the zone: the salary is small, the children are crushed by the shops, the bosses are crushing, and then these prisoners are a little that they write complaints. Complaints come to Moscow, from Moscow - to the department, from the department - to the colony. And now you are forced to make excuses.

Unfortunately, we are "the country of Ivanov, who do not remember kinship." Many of those who come to human rights today are people who start from scratch, as if there was nothing and nobody before them: neither the great doctor of Gaaz, nor dissidents with their experience of defending their rights and rights of ordinary criminals, as if there were no great defender of the rights of prisoners Valery Abramkin. By the way, also a member of the Presidential Council, who would never allow himself to start a report on a trip to the colony with quoting operational certificates. Because such quoting, speaking of the Zekov language, is a zapadlo.

Tolokonnikova’s letter is a document of extraordinary power, which gives examples of real crimes, possibly committed in the IK-14. Crimes that must be investigated: the death of a gypsy, clogged in a press squad, the story of an elderly woman who froze her arms and legs, and many other facts that cannot be checked in one day in a blitz-trim mode.

Why, instead of publishing Tolokonnikova’s statement at the beginning of his report, which forced them to come to Mordovia, human rights activists publish operational certificates?

And in general, who are they: human rights activists or prosecutors?

In an interview with a member of the HPC, Elena Masyuk, explaining his decision to start a hunger strike, Tolokonnikova says: “Here no one with me sent a single complaint anywhere, because everything is so captured here, everyone is so afraid, they understand that they can spend some deadlines here. This is my gesture, he is completely crazy, what will happen to me next, no one knows, but they all believe that this is madness. ”

You can write dozens of articles about inhuman conditions in colonies and prisons, to torture and beatings, but the evidence of those who survived all these horrors in their own skin, touch the living and amazing stronger than any articles. So six years ago, society was shocked by the evidence of the deadly sick Vasily Aleksanyan about blackmail from the investigation: he was offered to testify on Khodorkovsky in exchange for treatment. So four years ago, the information “bomb” was Sergey Magnitsky’s complaints about the conditions of detention in Butyrka, published after his death in prison. I remember how the human rights activist from the Moscow Federal Penitentiary Service assured me that Magnitsky wrote these complaints exclusively out of self-interest: he wanted to appeal to Strasbourg and receive monetary compensation.

It is normal when an employee of the system carries such an nonsense, but when members of the human rights council allow themselves to call a hunger strike “PR, inflated using the media and the Internet,” I want to twist a finger at the temple or point them out at a security forces.

Those who say this do not understand at all what a hunger strike is and why it serves. Somehow it is even strange to explain the alphabetic truths: any hunger strike serves solely in order to draw attention to any problem. In the book “The Wind”, Vladimir Bukovsky writes about this: Politzes announced hunger strikes precisely with the expectation of what they would recognize in the West, and the chiefs of prisons and officers feverishly listened to the Western radio, asking each other: “Was there anything about the Name-Namerek that was sitting in our camp?” It was - means wait for the commission. So today-only publicity can slightly change this system, which wildly resists any changes.

Damned land

It so happened that for six years in a row I went to Mordovia to visit Zara Murtazaliev*, who was serving eight and a half years in the IK-13 colony in the neighborhood of IK-14. Each time after this trip, I returned to Moscow with guilt. I understood that on a four -hour date in the presence of two vertukhayaks, Zara does not tell me the whole truth about what is happening in the colony. It was impossible to pull it out of there. She was constantly visited by the FSB officers who would never allow her to leave before the end of the term. Only a year ago, when storage was freed, I found out that she was beaten by an employee of the colony and she entered the hospital with a concussion. She told me that she hit her head, slipping in the bathhouse. She did not tell the truth to those lawyers whom I in a panic sent to her then to the hospital. Why?

“After all, they will leave, and I will stay,” Zara explained when we had already met at large. Unlike me, she knew that I understood only recently: saying a beating in the colony, declaring a hunger strike, you declare war on the system. And you can only survive in this war if you have powerful allies in the wild, who will be with you to the end. In the situation with Zara, accused of trying to a terrorist act, I did not have to hope for the tenth of the support that Tolokonnikov has now in the company. Even the most famous human rights activists who now help Nadia were afraid to help her.

Yes, Tolokonnikova was lucky, she has support in the wild. She hoped that she would receive help from members of the Human Rights Council, because they came to her in December last year. Nadia was entitled to expect help from them and now, when she announced this crazy hunger strike. Having written in the report that “the trip of the reward members was a pre -planned (defense of Tolokonnikova),” human rights activists, in fact, betrayed Nadia.

You can’t come to Mordovia for one or two days. There you need to settle and check the colony behind the colony. Only then something will change there. Anyone who at least once visited those parts will never forget this feeling of a “eternal Gulag”: starting from the Potma station - tens of kilometers - thorns, camp towers, fences, fences, fences. I often dreamed of this infinite road of Dubravlag, thick forests, surrounding camps, the territory of lawlessness, from where it is impossible to escape. The strongest impression is a young girl on the tower. I asked a taxi driver who once again took me on a date, why girls go to work in a spite. He explained that there was no other work in these parts. The grandchildren of those who guarded the “wives of the enemies of the people” in the Stalinist Dubravlaga now work in the Mordovlag, and the children of those who guarded dissidents in Brezhnev-Andropov time. Then human rights activists did not go to the zones and the power of Vertukhaev was unlimited. The only thing that limited them: in Mordovia there were two political zones - female and male, and when the “political” declared hunger strikes, the jailers had to reckon with this.

Tolokonnikov was sent to Mordovia to break it. Those who sent her believed Putin, who stated that today in Russia there were no political prisoners. They miscalculated. And, probably, Alexei Navalny was right, who wrote that Tolokonnikova made more to his hunger strike than many other human rights activists.

A piece of shit

Valery Abramkin, recalling his experience of prison hunger strikes, wrote: “From the side, all these statements, conversations with prosecutors, hunger strikes may seem“ mouse fuss ”(although I honestly admit: the two results achieved in the“ mouse Farm ”, I am very proud - now there will be a prisoner and in the heat there will be at least a little relief, and not for one year old; The issuance of the Code of Criminal Procedure is things for the under investigation, by their own admission, very important). Having decided on a hunger strike, Nadia Tolokonnikova understood the very essence of the prison that Abramkin writes about. But the three members of the HRC, who signed the main report ** about the trip to IK-14, did not understand anything.

In any case, they did not understand the main thing: a human rights activist is not a profession. This is a state of mind. You may not like the prisoner himself, his relatives, his lawyers, but you still have to defend his interests. Because for the real human rights activist ZEK is always right. And he knows better than you what he needs at this moment.

In dissident times, there was such a joke: “If you are asked to bring a piece of shit to the zone, bring a piece of shit. And do not ask why it is a prisoner ... "
