Expressionists from Vienna were brought to the Hermitage

On Wednesday, October 9, an exhibition “Master of Art of the 20th century from the Assembly of Batliner in Albertin” opens in the State Hermitage, at which 55 works from the collection of expressionists of the Vienna Museum Albertin will be presented.

The starting point of the exposition will be the main works of the two most significant associations of expressionist artists: “Bridge” with the canvases of Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Erich Heckel, Karl Schmidt-Porotluff, Emil Nolde and Max Pakhstein, as well as a selection of works of the Blue Horseman association, where Yavlevsky, Augustus are represented, August Macke, Gabriela Munter and Henry Campendon.

All these works are included in the collection of Herbert and Rita Batliner, which they donated to Albertine.

A special emphasis at the exhibition in the Hermitage will be made on Austrian expressionism - the works of Rudolf Wacker, Herbert Bökl and, above all, city landscapes and landscapes of Oscar Kokoshka. Painting from the battleship collection will complement the drawings and watercolors of the coconut and Nolde.

The exhibition also includes the main works of Edward Munk, Max Bekman, Lionel Faininger and Pablo Picasso.

The exhibition in the Hermitage “The Master of Arts of the XX century from the Austrian-Russian Friendship of Austrian-Russian Friendship 2013/14, will last until January 12, 2014.
