In June 2012, Sergeyev replaced Demyan Kudryavtsev, general director of ID Demyan , who worked in the leadership of Kommersant for more than 10 years.

In an interview with Slon.ru, Kudryavtsev denied a “direct political connection” between his departure and the scandalous resignation of the chief editor of Kommersant-Vlast magazine Maxim Kovalsky in 2011.
