The historian Nikolai Pokrovsky died

On Sunday, October 13, in the 84th year of his life, a historian, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, former political prisoner Nikolai Pokrovsky, who committed, in the words of D.S. Likhacheva, "Archaeographic discovery of Siberia."

Nikolai Nikolaevich Pokrovsky was born in 1930 in Rostov-on-Don, graduated from Moscow State University (1952), graduate school at Moscow State University (1955), in 1955-1957-assistant to the Department of Source Studies of the Moscow State University.

In 1957, Pokrovsky was arrested in the Rendel -Krasnopevtsev case (“University case”) and sentenced under Article 58 (paragraph 10, part 1 and paragraph 11) of the Criminal Code of the RSFSR to the 6 years of the camp (Dubrovlag) with a lifelong deprivation of the right to reside in Moscow after the deadline.

He was released in 1963, in 1964-1965 he was the head of the department, deputy director of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve.

In 1965, Nikolai Pokrovsky moved to Novosibirsk, where he first worked in the humanitarian research department of the Institute of Economics and Industrial Production of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences, and in 1966-1991 - at the Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy with the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, since 1991 - Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the Institute of History of the SB RAS.

Doctor of Historical Sciences (1974), Professor (1977), Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences (1992). The author of more than 200 publications, including 9 monographs, on the problems of Russian history of the 16th - 20th centuries.
