Historian Nikolai Pokrovsky died

Academician Nikolai Pokrovsky died the head of the archaeography and source of the Institute of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences on Sunday in Novosibirsk at the 84th year of his life after a long illness. This was reported on the website of the institute.

Pokrovsky is the author of more than 200 publications, including nine monographs, on the problems of Russian history of the XVI -XX centuries. He took part in the project of the publication of the annotated pointer declassified after the death of Stalin memoir sources in Soviet history.

He graduated from Moscow State University and graduate school of Moscow State University. In 1955-1957 he worked as an assistant to the Department of Source Studies of Moscow State University.

In 1957, together with a group of like -minded people, he was convicted in the so -called "university case" and sent to exile for 6 years. By the decision of the Presidium of the Supreme Court of the RSFSR of May 3, 1989, the sentence was canceled and all convicts were rehabilitated on it.

After the exemption, he was the deputy director of the Vladimir-Suzdal Museum-Reserve. In 1965 he moved to Novosibirsk. He worked there at the Institute of Economics and Organization of Industrial Production, the Institute of History, Philology and Philosophy with the USSR Academy of Sciences. Since 1991, he was deputy director of the Institute of History of the SB RAS. Pokrovsky is known as the founder of the Siberian archaeographic school.
