Sergei Mikhakov loves the songs of the “Heat Protection Committee” and sings them at the concerts of Lyuprus Trubetskoy. On October 16, the leader of the first in the Union of the regional group Oldi would have turned 52 years old. Lapis Trubetskoy and the Dub-Group of the Caribass, who was friends with Oldie, decided to celebrate this date with a joint release:
Oldie and I met the year in the 89th. The “Heat Protection Committee” then came to St. Petersburg to play a concert in the theater on Fontanka. Heat Auktsyon. Before that meeting about them, I knew only that this is the first and only in the Union of the reggae group. A few of their songs heard on other people's cassettes, and a bunch of stories about their party in the magical Koenigsberg - this is all with which I went to that concert.
I felt interest and respect for these mysterious pioneers immediately. Technically, this was not reggae in a well -known, exotic form - unexpectedly it was absolutely its own, our topic. In the native language. Clear and affordable in its simplicity. Using reggae and techniques, Oldi perfectly expressed his thoughts, and not some Jamaican performers. His approach inspired me very much.
The mask in the photo Oldie was drawn by Philip Nikanorov ("Caribasses")In personal communication, Oldie constantly deployed you to himself. It was possible to get angry with him, it could annoy, but in the end you found yourself alone with yourself and suddenly understood something important. And Oldie was no longer there. Feel human pain and understand human imperfections - I studied this, including from Oldie.
Olds and his group influenced many people in various cities. This is partly due to purely organizational successes: then, at the turn of the 80s-90s, the “Heat Protection Committee” traveled a lot around the country.
The things that Oldi sang about are not only beyond the framework of a particular subculture, but also beyond the framework of rock and roll.
But there was still a magical factor. People gathered, giving Oldie a special force, his words with their sound - this was a mixture, which forced to fall into a trance, mysterious music. Olds managed to embody the rebellious element of reggae culture on our basis, combining it with the heroic image of a man doomed, but not surrendered.
Some call this a special term “Dark Reggae” . It is not the fact that this is the right term, but the fact that Oldi was a unique artist, he did not want to be a pop star, he was looking for his path. That is why his songs are remembered today. They live in us.
Casket cover with autograph OldieAt one time, Oldi's songs were known only to a rather narrow circle of regions and SKA lovers, in general, people from the subculture. I was also like that when long ago I performed his songs under the guitar in the Crimea, on the embankments of Yalta and Gurzuf, but I already realized that, just like Letov, Bashlachev, Mike Naumenko, Chistyakov, like all the great rock poets and rock musicians, Oldi can be interesting and understandable to a much wider circle of people. The things he sang about are not only beyond the scope of a particular subculture, but also beyond the framework of rock and roll. His songs are understandable to people completely far from punk rock or retapricanism, and in this he looks like a different great regent-musician of Bob Marley-after all, not only the mismanas are listened to him, although he himself remained so to his death. Oldi's songs should and will live for a long time. For young people who sing with us the song “Africa”, we are just mediators in the world of old. After our Africa, they begin to listen to the “Heat Protection Committee”, and for them, in general, everything is clear in these songs. This means that these music, these texts, this energy - are timeless things.
