Lon Snowden, the father of former American intelligence officer Edward Snowden, returns to the United States on Wednesday, but plans to come to Russia again, RIA Novosti reports , citing lawyer Anatoly Kucherena.

“Lon is leaving now, I’m seeing him off at the airport. He’s very happy with the trip. Happy to see his son,” said Kucherena, who represents Edward Snowden’s interests in Russia. The lawyer clarified that Snowden’s father does not yet know the date of his next visit to Russia, but really wants to return.

Anatoly Kucherena also said that the employment of Edward Snowden is on the agenda and this issue will be resolved in the near future. However, according to him, the issue of requesting citizenship for the former US intelligence officer has not yet been considered.

In May 2013, former CIA officer Edward Snowden fled to Hong Kong, where he spread information about the US intelligence service to Internet users. On June 23, Snowden flew from Hong Kong to Moscow to board a plane to Cuba. However, his passport was revoked, which is why he was forced to linger in the airport transit zone until August 1, when he was granted temporary asylum in Russia.

After leaving the airport, Snowden disappeared in an unknown direction. Last week, Wikileaks published the first video of Snowden after his arrival in Russia. This is a recording from the ceremony at which representatives of the Sam Adams Associates for Integrity in Intelligence presented Snowden with the Integrity Award. The award is named after CIA analyst Sam Adams, who during the Vietnam War accused the US government of deliberately downplaying enemy strength for political purposes.

A criminal case has been opened against Edward Snowden in the United States. He is accused of espionage and theft of government property.
