Margvelashvili was elected president in the first round

In the election of the President of Georgia, the candidate from the ruling coalition "Georgian Dream" George Margvelashvili is leading, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the CEC of the country. Based on the results of processing the ballots with 81 percent of the polling stations, Margvelashvili gained 62.19 percent of the vote. In second place is the presidential candidate from the former ruling party David Bakradze - 21.86 percent. The leader of the party "Democratic movement - the unified Georgia" Nino Burjanadze scored 10.04. The turnout in the elections amounted to 46.6 percent.

The leader of the Labor Party, Shalva Natelashvili, who gained 2.87 percent, claims that the elections are falsified as a result of the transaction between the Georgian Dream coalition and the Saakashvili Party National Movement. He demands to count the ballots throughout the country and calls for street manifestations.

The current president Mikhail Saakashvili recognized the elections honest. “Georgian voters said their word, I want to say to everyone who is dissatisfied with the results: we must respect any choice - these are the rules of democracy,” he emphasized. At the same time, Saakashvili noted that the voter turnout, compared with previous presidential elections in 2008, was low.

Margvelashvili called for himself to vote for himself for the successor of the Georgian Dream Coalition Policy, Bakradze urged to prevent the concentration of power from one political force. In foreign policy, all candidates declared commitment to rapprochement with NATO and the European Union, indicating the need to normalize relations with Russia.

Margvelashvili - a philosopher by education, for a long time was engaged in scientific work. After the parliamentary elections of last year, he worked for less than a year by the Minister of Education. In the election, he was actively supported by the leader of the coalition "Georgian Dream", Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili.

According to the CEC, 3655 polling stations and 34 additional special stages were opened in the country, and 52 sites functioned outside Georgia - in 44 cities of 37 countries. Abroad, 48,458 citizens of Georgia had the opportunity to vote.

On the territory of Russia, plots did not open due to the lack of diplomatic relations between countries, therefore, Georgian citizens living in Russia could not take part in the vote.

With the assistance of the Ministry of Defense, the Central Election Commission of Georgia also created two special polling stations on the Georgian and American military bases in the Afghan Gilmen Province, where more than 1,500 Georgian military, participating in the operations of international security assistance in Afghanistan (ISAF). According to the CEC, Margvelashvili won with an overwhelming advantage.

The speaker of the Central Election Commission of Georgia Ekaterina Azarashvili said that about 20 thousand local observers registered from public organizations, parties and candidates, and more than 1,200 international observers were observed behind the presidential election. The elections were covered by about 1,500 representatives of local and foreign media.
