In Novosibirsk, scientists have developed a new cancer vaccine: it was tested on patients in the later stages of the disease. According to Sibruy.ru , the medicine was able to increase the life expectancy of patients by about doubled.
The discovery was made by scientists of the Research Institute of Clinical Immunology of the RAMS. Their method was based on genetic engineering. Scientists have removed the so -called dendritic cells from the patient’s body and “loaded” them with antigens of tumor cells. Then the cells again returned to the body, where they began to actively fight the tumor.
According to scientists, the vaccine was tested on cancer tumors of the brain. The results have shown that the medicine is able to extend the life of the patient up to three to five years.
Business FM reports that now the medicine is tested on a patient with lung cancer. In addition, according to scientists, it has already been established that the vaccine is effective against colorectal cancer, breast tumors and prostate cancer. The next stage is the use of a vaccine in the early stages of the disease.
The important difference between the new vaccine and others is that it does not cause any side effects. “Because these are the patient’s own cells. And if you introduce cells from another person, the patient will die,” the director of the Institute of Cellular Immunology, Vladimir Kozlov, told the Sibruy.ru portal.
According to Novosibirsk IA , scientists are already ready to produce the drug on an industrial scale. However, to complete clinical trials and the start of production, considerable funds are needed, which researchers do not have.
"There is a vaccine, we are ready for its clinical trials. It works quite well and clearly. But as for the further - we are looking for money. In a good way, you need ten millions at least to develop methods for replicating these cells. I can’t find money for now," Kozlov said Business FM.
Sibruy.ru claims that 150 million rubles are needed. If the money appears, the medicine will be able to put into operation in six months. In addition, bureaucracy interferes with the continuation of research: it is necessary that the Ministry of Health “advances” the law on cellular technologies, which should allow the use of cellular technologies when surgical and drug intervention is powerless.
