20 years ago, on November 3, 1993, the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church deprived the dissident of the priest Gleb Yakunin San "for refusing to submit to the demand for the non -participation of Orthodox clergycs in the parliamentary elections." Now the Moscow Patriarchate believes that priests can participate as candidates in the parliamentary elections, but only with the permission of the Patriarch and only "in exceptional cases, for reasons of extreme church necessity." O. Gleb Yakunin now belongs to the Apostolic Orthodox Church and is the secretary of the Holy Synod of the APC.
