Foreign journalists are scared away from Sochi

Norwegian journalists who came to cover the Olympics in Sochi complain of oppression by Russian law enforcement agencies.

The police pursued and threatened to put TV 2 television companies in prison, Echo Moscow reports with reference to Human Rights Watch (HRW) human rights organization.

The reporter and operator during a three -day trip from Maykop to Sochi were stopped six times and detained three times. During interrogations, reporters had to talk about work plans in Sochi and other regions, about information sources and even their religious beliefs.

The Deputy Director of the HRW for Europe and Central Asia Jane Buchenen said that the International Olympic Committee is obliged to demand an explanation from Russia.

“Thousands of reporters will come to the games in Sochi, and one of the main responsibilities of the owners of the Olympiad is to provide them with the conditions for work without interference and threats,” Buchanen quoted The Guardian .
