
Today, November 21, in Moscow a prize in the field of popular science literature "Enlightener" was awarded for 2013.
In the nomination “Natural and exact sciences” the book “Wait, who is leading? The biology of human behavior and other animals ”Dmitry Zhukov, Viktor Sonkin was awarded in the nomination“ Humanitarian Sciences ”for the book“ There was Rome ”, RIA Novosti reports.
Each of the laureates was awarded a monetary prize of 720 thousand rubles, their publishers will receive certificates for 130 thousand rubles to promote books in the market. The finalists of the "Enlightener" receive 120 thousand rubles.
In the nomination “For the Best Biography”, introduced this year, the book “Darwin” (the series “Life of wonderful people”) Maxim Chertanov won, and at the award ceremony it turned out that a woman was hiding under this pseudonym (she wished to preserve the secret of the name). Her monetary prize amounted to 80 thousand rubles.
This year, the jury of the award established a special prize “For selfless service to the work of enlightenment”, which was awarded to the linguist Maxim Krongauza.
The Enlightener Award was established in 2008 by the founder and honorary president of Vimpelcom and the founder of the Fund for Non-Profit Dynasty's Non-Profit Programs Dmitry Zimin in order to attract readers' attention to the educational genre, as well as create prerequisites for expanding the popular science literature market.
Together with the Pushkin Library NF, the Enlightener Prize implements a large library program: annually, 125 libraries of Russian regions are sent to the books of laureates and finalists of the award.
