This lecture is about new feminist theories and trends in the field of gender research. Here, methods of applying new theories in the opera heritage of the 21st century, in particular in the operas of women composers are considered. It is interesting to see how female characters are interpreted in the opera. The introduction of gender research and feminist theories in the study of music since the 1980s has become one of the most significant and turning points in the history of discipline, designating the arrival of the so-called “new” or “cultural” musicology. It is worth noting that this new step was mainly made by women-musicians, philosophers, literary critics (Catherine Clément, Susan McClary, Linda Hutcheon, Carolyn Abbate, Wendy Heller, Mary Ann Smart, Heather Hadlock). The lecture is based on three operas of young Serbian and Croatian women composers who live and work in Belgrade, Vienna and Amsterdam. This is Yasna Velichkovich (Belgrade/Amsterdam): Dreamepera (2001), Anya Georgevich (Belgrade): Narcis and Ekho (Narcissus and Echo, 2002), Mirlia Ivichevich (Split/Vienna): Three linden (three beauties, 2007).
The lecture by Tatyana Markovich is held as part of the Festival of Modern Art “The World of Sound II. Total integration ”, organized by the Center for Modern Technologies in Art Parking Art.
