Two strong earthquakes occurred in Indonesia

In different parts of Indonesia on Sunday, two strong earthquakes of magnitude 6.4 and 5.8 occurred.

In the morning, an earthquake of magnitude 6.4 occurred in the eastern part of Indonesia, ITAR-TASS reports with reference to the data of the US Geological Service. The epicenter of underground shocks was 340 km northwest of the city of Saumlaki in the province of Molucci, the hearth lay at a depth of 10 km under the seabed. There has not yet been received information about the victims, there is no threat to the tsunami.

A few hours later, an earthquake of magnitude 5.8 occurred off the north-west coast of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. In this case, the epicenter of underground shocks was 73 km southeast of the city of Sinabang, the hearth lay at a depth of 18 km under the seabed. In this case, there is also no information about the victims and destruction.

The country is characterized by seismic shocks and eruptions, as it is located in the so -called Pacific volcanic fire ring - the area in which most existing volcanoes are located and about 90% of all world earthquakes occurs.
