
The damage from corruption in Russia over the past two years has amounted to more than 9 billion rubles. This was stated by the head of the Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin at the visiting meeting of the State Duma Committee on Security and Countering Corruption, the press service of the Investigative Committee reports .
According to Bastrykin, the amount of more than 4 billion rubles was seized on the property of the accused, the damage was reimbursed for the same amount. "Since 2011, 57 thousand criminal cases of corruption have been opened by the Investigative Committee and 22 thousand were sent to the court for consideration on the merits," he said.
Bastrykin also said that convictions are carried out in 99 percent of corruption cases that have reached the court. However, in most cases, bribe takers are now sentenced to fines. At the same time, the assigned amounts are still refused to pay. Only one percent of the appointed fines was paid, the head of the TFR noted.
Bastrykin also recalled the initiatives previously proposed by the Investigative Committee. Among them is the introduction of criminal liability of legal entities, counteracting the withdrawal of capital abroad through "one -day companies", the fight against financial pyramids.
"Today, at the state level, maximum efforts are being made to ensure our law enforcement officers, including the Investigative Committee with sufficient legal tools to combat corruption," said Irina Yarovaya, chairman of the Duma committee at the meeting.
