In 2014, the Ministry of Defense will create its own news agency, which will cover not only military topics, but also socio-political and other “resonant” events in Russia and abroad, RIA Novosti reported on Thursday, citing a source in the department.

According to the agency's interlocutor, this decision was made by the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. According to preliminary plans, the news agency, controlled by the Ministry of Defense, will be focused “primarily on the Internet audience,” the source said.

It is assumed that the news agency will be part of the structure of the media holding “Creative Association “Red Star”, which is headed by former senator and TV presenter Alexey Pimanov.

Krasnaya Zvezda owns the TV company Zvezda, the printing house and the creative association Krasnaya Zvezda. Currently, the media holding is under the control of Oboronservis. In early November, it was reported that the media holding would be removed from the control of Oboronservis, which became notorious after the discovery of multimillion-dollar thefts during the sale of Defense Ministry property.

At the end of October, the head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu said that by the end of the year the department would create its own film company and film studio to produce documentaries, feature and animated films. According to him, the main goal of creating the studio is to return to the roots of Russian history and patriotic education.
