School named after A.N. Kolmogorov specialized educational and scientific center of M.V. Lomonosov Moscow State University will celebrate its 50th anniversary on December 7, 2013.

In 1963, on the initiative of brilliant scientists, academicians Andrei Kolmogorov and Isaac Kikoin, as well as with the active support of the President of the USSR Academy of Sciences Mstislav Keldysh, the Rector of Moscow State University Ivan Petrovsky and the President of the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences Mikhail Lavrentiev, four boarding schools of physics, mathematics and chemistry were opened - biological profile at Moscow, Novosibirsk, Leningrad and Kiev universities. Academicians considered the organization of such schools to be a matter of exceptional national importance.

The main tasks for boarding schools were the selection, training and education of boys and girls aged 15-16 years, living in the outback of the country, far from large university centers and having a pronounced ability to study mathematics and physics. According to the founders, such schools not only provide the opportunity for self-realization to talented teenagers, but also lay the foundation for the future of mathematics and physics, and grow the scientific and business elite of society.

The founding academicians considered working in such a school one of the main affairs of their lives. Kolmogorov himself dedicated the last 23 years of his life to the Moscow Physics School No. 18: he gave lectures, conducted seminars and permanently headed its Board of Trustees. Following in the footsteps of Lomonosov, the perspicacious scientist saw the Physics and Mathematics Boarding School at Moscow State University as a school similar to the Tsarskoye Selo Lyceum, with elements of freethinking and democracy in teaching. The main goal was to educate students in the skills of a systematic and pure search for Truth. The main covenants left by the Teacher: “Truth is good, and our task is to find it and consistently defend it”; “Teach, but not preach”; “Dream for a second and do it” are still relevant today.

The teaching staff of the school was selected very carefully. Over the years, academicians V.I. Arnold, B.V. Gnedenko, V.V. Kozlov, A.A. Zaliznyak, A.N. Shiryaev, S.V. Matveev, I.R. Shafarevich, V. G. Zubov, M. A. Leontovich, A. L. Semenov. Among the teachers, in addition to outstanding mathematicians, physicists and chemists, are such famous personalities as bard and poet Yuliy Kim (author of the Physics School anthem), artist Dmitry Gordeev, literary critic-translator Alexander Livergant, English philologist Olga Akhmanova, writer Yuri Podlipchuk, philologist Anatoly Kachalkin, historian Alexander Orlov.

The modern school of the Moscow State University Scientific Research Center (faculty) lives and develops with the times: in addition to physics and mathematics specialization, it successfully trains children in computer and information science, chemical and biological fields. The students of the boarding school are students of Moscow State University, and the teachers, most of whom have academic degrees and titles, are employees and teachers of the University. The FMS-SUSC school rightfully bears the name of the inspirer, wonderful person and outstanding scientist Andrei Nikolaevich Kolmogorov.

Over the 50 years of its existence, the Moscow boarding school has graduated 366 classes and almost 9,000 graduates. The ratio of girls to boys is one to five. 40 students graduated from the school with a gold medal, and 88 with a silver medal. Among the graduates are 69 winners of international Olympiads, mainly in mathematics and physics, as well as computer science, chemistry, astronomy and natural science. Almost all graduates entered higher educational institutions in the country, mainly in Moscow. It is known that at least 60% of students entered MSU. M.V. Lomonosov and over 15% at MIPT.

Any school in the world is proud of the success of its graduates. Among former students of the boarding school. A.N. Kolmogorov - RAS academicians Yuri Matiyasevich and Gennady Savin, 10 people are corresponding members of the RAS, two are academicians of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences, one corresponding member of the RAO, one of the RAASN and one corresponding member of the NAS of Belarus.

Graduates defended about 300 doctoral dissertations and more than 1,400 graduates became candidates of science. The specialties are very diverse: physical and mathematical, technical, pedagogical, economic, chemical, biological, medical, philosophical, geological, mineralogical and political sciences. Among the employees of one of the world's mathematical centers, the Mathematical Institute. V.A. Steklov every tenth is a graduate of the school named after. A.N. Kolmogorov.

Graduates of the school work not only in prestigious universities, scientific and educational institutions, but also in large industrial enterprises and banks; engaged in science, education, various studies, literature, cinema, painting, politics, and entrepreneurship. Many occupy high management positions. Among them, there are many well-known public figures: Russian Minister Mikhail Abyzov, director of the Russian State Library Alexander Visly, founder of the antivirus laboratory Evgeny Kaspersky, politicians Ivan Melnikov (worked as a mathematics teacher at school), Boris Nadezhdin, mayor of Khimki Oleg Shakhov, ex-governor of the Pskov region Mikhail Kuznetsov and many others.
