In the Mikhailovsky Theater in St. Petersburg on the future Thursday, December 12, the premiere of the Nutcracker ballet in the choreography of Nacho Duato will take place.
“In December and in January, a new performance will be shown 19 times,” the press service of the Mikhailovsky Theater quoted his General Director Vladimir Kekhman.
The new version of Tchaikovsky’s ballet was prepared by the artistic director of the ballet of the Mikhailovsky Theater, the Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato.
Comparing the new ballet with the “sleeping beauty”, where complex dance compositions that require magnificent technology prevail, Duato noted that in the “Nutcracker” there is more “dance as such, from the heart, from some inner feeling”.
The scenery and costumes for the Nutcracker are made by the French artist Jerome Kaplan. “It was here, in St. Petersburg, this ballet was born and was first shown,” says the scenographer. “There can be no better place for the artist to present his version of the performance.”
The authors decided to place the first picture of the ballet in St. Petersburg of the beginning of the twentieth century. “The Russians are experiencing nostalgia for pre -revolutionary times,” Kaplan is sure Jyr. “Foreigners who come here also experience this feeling and are looking for evidence of that era that is very consistent with Tchaikovsky’s music in spirit.”
The Christmas Eve in the living room of the rich bourgeois house, decorated in the style of Ar-nuvo, is replaced, the fictional world comes, the action moves into the space of sleep. The authors of the play believe that each act should have its own character: “It is important to show the difference in two worlds, but in unified aesthetic boundaries.”
Together with the choreographer of Nacho Duato and the artist-artist Zerom Kaplan, the musical director of the production and conductor Pavel Bubelnikov, the artist of the world Brad Fields, assistants choreographer Tony Fabr and Gentian Doda are working on the ballet.
The Nutcracker will become the tenth premiere of Nacho Duato on the stage of the Mikhailovsky Theater and his last work as the artistic director of the ballet troupe. Having accepted the proposal to take the post of artistic director of the Berlin State Ballet, in the future Duato will cooperate with the Mikhailovsky Theater as a choreographer.
