Tymoshenko stopped a hunger strike

Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Tymoshenko stopped a hunger strike at the request of supporters of European integration who organized protests on Independence Square in Kyiv. About this with reference to the daughter of ex-Prime Minister Yevgeny Tymoshenko reports Interfax.

Tymoshenko kept the hunger strike from November 25 in protest against the decision of the country's authorities on the termination of the integration process with Europe. The ex-deputy prime minister, in particular, stated the serving deadline for the conclusion of unprofitable gas contracts with Russia, stated that she was ready to sign the Association Agreement with the EU, even without the condition for its release from prison.

In 2011, Yulia Tymoshenko was sentenced to seven years in prison with property confiscation, but since May 2012 she has been in the Kharkov hospital in connection with the disease of the spine. The European Union previously stated that one of the conditions for the conclusion of an association agreement and the free trade zone is either Tymoshenko’s release or its sending for treatment outside Ukraine.

After the announcement of the Ukrainian authorities on the suspension of preparation for European integration, protests were held throughout the country. One of these demonstrations in the center of Kyiv on Independence Square on the night of November 30 dispersed the police.

Acceleration of the action provoked a new wave of protests that began on December 1 and led to a clash with law enforcement agencies. In total, during the skirmishes with the police, 112 participants in the action, 120 employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and 36 journalists who illuminated events were injured.
