The decree “On some measures to improve the efficiency of the state media” was published on the presidential website .

The main activity of the Federal State Unitary Enterprise “International Information Agency Russia Today” will be coverage abroad of the state policy of the Russian Federation and public life in Russia. “Russia today” has already appeared on Facebook .

In addition to the RIA Novosti, according to the decree, the Radio Voice of Russia radio station (its property is transferred to the economic management of the Russia Today agency), the State Fund of Television and Radio Programs (with the transfer of property of the VGTRK) and the Russian Book Chamber (with the transfer of ITAR-TASS property), and the Rodina magazine joins the Russian newspaper.

By another decree , Putin was appointed Dmitry Kiselev, Director General of the Russia Today agency, who is now the deputy director of the VGTRK.

The story of RIA Novosti, one of the world's largest information agencies, began in 1941, when the Swinformburo was created. In 1961, it was transformed into the News Agency (APN), in 1990, the news agency (Ian) was created on the basis of the APN, and in September 1991 Ian was transformed into the Russian news agency (RIA Novosti).
