Before I saw this film, I thought like this: I will write a warning. I will start right away with the fact that in this case I am biased and engaged. That Pussy Riot - and Tolokonnikova with Alekhina in particular - seem to me by the heroines of today and heroines in general and that any film, shot about them and in their favor, I approve in advance. But now, having watched “Pussy Versus Putin” , I can say with responsibility and without any warning: this is an excellent film - and its creators (and rather, creators) received a prize of the Film Festival in Amsterdam not from humanitarian considerations that I wanted to express in my prereitation, but by law.

But one reservation-to avoid confusion-is still required. We are talking about a film made in the style of Gerillas-journalism and consisting almost only from the documentation ( Pussy shares Riot , preparing for them, detentions, as well as the actions of their supporters and opponents), made by a group called Gogol ' S Wves Productions . And not about the tape of the venerable British producer Mike Lerner and director Maxim Pozdovkin (their film “Pussy Riot: A Punk's Prayer” was shown by the Air Force and HBO and was recently nominated for Oscar). Now, if it was about him, my warning, it may have been needed. And now - no.

No - because the conspirated authors " Pussy Versus Putin ” managed to do what not only the progressive (in the correct sense of the word) cinema, but progressive (in the same sense of the word) art in general strives. They managed to approach the viewer into a minimum, almost non -existent distance. Even more - they managed to bring to such a distance to the viewer of their heroes.

I now mean the proximity not only met-, but also quite physical. Most of the filming was clearly carried out by one of the group members. Here, for example, the camera because of the grate (that is, through the eyes of the detainees) monitors the faces of the guardians of the law enforcement in the department, where the girls were brought after a frontal place; The shooting of this action, by the way, is a video of unusual beauty: lemon-blue-red-green figures against the background of the gray wall of the hum, a suspension of snow, a purple smear of a banner in the air, just some kind of bruegel. Immediately after these frames, we see a picture, the Brueghel is unlike, but real. That is, real: oil, in a frame, slightly rushed on a nail. It depicts a Cossack galloping on a horse-it is crossed by grate rods, due to which this secret shoot is conducted. An irritated voice comes from the side: “How are they sitting in a cell with phones?! I don’t understand! ” Then another: “Yes, we will take it now! And now we’ll take the poster now. ” Then the sonorous and rather evil voice of Tolokonnikova enters, her profile enters the frame for a short time: “This is the Pussy Raiot poster, you know what it is, no? Plant me for fifteen days, I won’t give the equipment. ”

The viewer here is almost a participant. This is “almost” here is extremely important. It turns out, as if you are there, right there, you just can’t say anything or do. Such inaction involved is a very exciting position. And in episodes with girls from Pussy Riot she excites even less than in others.

- They insulted the feelings of millions of believers. They insulted the whole line to the belt of the Virgin! Glory to Christ!
- Death to the Antichrist! Won the demons ran!

The conversation of the three “conservatively” participants of the next skirmish was shot almost closely - it is difficult to even understand how it succeeded, that is, how the shooter managed not to launch.

The fact that the speakers look completely civilian (the mummers of the Savior Cathedral, together with the Cathedral of Christ, can be seen in the background) and can in the literal sense of the word be “each of us”, only escapes the general first -hand, moves it very close, causes quite real itching.

In general, it is done very clearly. Sharp, full of meaning, politics, ideas Rahoye Pussy Riot is natural, one might say, is opposed to the nauseating and dangerous booth of their opponents. About what opponents I must say this.

This film is called " Pussy Versus Putin ” , but there is no Putin there. And it was not that his image was difficult to insert there. Could easily mount a replica about the “two-shaped” and something else like that. But gogol ' s Wves Productions practically do not use other people's filming and do not resort to “information”, frontal techniques (there is no sunbeam in the film, directly taken interviews and the like). Their king plays a retinue. And at first it seems that it is unfair and even wrong. That it is impossible to set a sign, albeit not equality, but even congruence between the president of a large country and scumbags in roasters or even in ties.

Well, then they show (yes again very close-from the inside) a crowded auto-zak near the Tagan court, in which a tiny girl with the dreadlocks is trying to prove something to the aggressive guys who erupt the mat, interspersed with the cries of “Christ Risen!”. And then suddenly it becomes clear: if this is Putin's Russia (and this is it), then in contrasting the “ Pussy ” vs. “ Putin ” this mixture of a mat with God is “ Putin ” .
