"School of modern play" will be restored for 700 million

According to preliminary estimates, the cost of restoration work necessary to restore the burned -up building of the School of Modern Play in Moscow will amount to about 700 million rubles.

The fire in the theater "School of the Modern Play" occurred on November 3, the fire area was 500 sq.m. The cause of the fire was the old electrical wiring.

The scenery, props, the interiors of the building were injured, the roof was dismantled above the large hall. Since December, the theater has continued to work at other venues in Moscow, including the shopping center “on the passionate”, “Gogol Center”, “School of Dramatic Art” and the Serafimovich DC.

“The Department of Culture supported our idea to restore the theater,” the theater director Ekaterina Kretova told RIA Novosti .

According to the concept of restoration, the old building on Neglinnaya will be restored as a monument of culture without adapting it to theatrical activity. At the same time, it is supposed to build a new scene nearby.

The construction project of the new building of the “School of the Modern Play” has already been approved, the construction began, but was mothballed in 2011. According to Kretova, the cost of construction can be from 700 million to 1.3 billion rubles.

“We are waiting for a solution that orally sounded at a meeting in the Moscow government two weeks ago. The city hall should decide on the choice in which the project will be implemented: it will be just restoration, restoration with the restoration of a historical species or both with the construction of a new scene. After all, the old theater building has always been adapted to the theater very conditionally. Now, after restoration, it would be possible to conduct special projects, concerts, exhibitions, balls in it, and the theater with equipment would have moved to a new stage, ”said the director of the theater.
