The writer Chabua Amirejibi died

On the night of Friday, December 13, at the age of 92, the classic of Georgian literature of the 20th century died, the author of the famous novel “Date of Tutashhia” Chabua Amirejibi.

Chabua Amirejibi was born in 1921 in Tbilisi in the family of a lawyer, originating from an ancient princely kind. In 1944, for participation in the student political group "White George" Amirejibi was sentenced to 25 years in prison. He fled three times, and for the third time, according to fake documents, he got to Belarus, where he became the director of the plant, after which he was again sent in conclusion. He was released in 1959.

Amirejibi began to engage in literary activities since 1960. His first book, a collection of stories, was published in 1962. His most popular novel “Tutashhia Date” was published in 1975. In 1977, the 7-episode film "Berel" was shot on it. Also, among the most famous works of the Chabua AmirEdzhibi “Gorgali Mborgali” (1995), “George Brilliant” (2005).

In 2010, the writer tonsured monks, having received a blessing from the head of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Elijah II. The Holy Synod of the Georgian Orthodox Church, as an exception, allowed the 89-year-old writer to stay in the monastery, but in his own house. The tonsured monk was assigned the church name David.
