Ukraine postponed the signing of the European integration agreement because the European Union demanded that it legalize same -sex marriages and adopt a law on equal rights for LGBT. This was announced on Saturday at a rally of opponents of European integration in Kyiv by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Nikolai Azarov, the Air Force reports.
“We must legalize same -sex marriages, we must adopt a law on the equality of sexual minorities. Is our society ready for this?” Azarov addressed the action participants. “The second condition - we must introduce biometric passports and take all fingerprints from all.”
Azarov also confirmed that in the near future the Ukrainian authorities will sign a large package of agreements with Russia. “We need to restore trade relations with the Russian Federation. And finally, after long negotiations, we agreed to eliminate all the contradictions with Russia. On Monday, we are completing these negotiations, and as a result of agreements, we will sign a package of agreements that will give work to our enterprises,” Azarov said.
At the same time, the prime minister called the statements about the possible entry of Ukraine to the Customs Union with "speculations". “There is a lot of speculations around this. Allegedly we are handing over Ukraine there and sign the Customs Union. I categorically refute these speculations,” the Ukrainian prime minister said.
Azarov’s statement that the European Union requires Ukraine to legitimize same -sex marriages has already been refuted by the head of the EU representative office in Ukraine, Yang Tobbinsky. In an interview with the Internet publication zaxid.net, he said that we are only talking about the adoption of anti-discrimination legislation aimed at protecting the rights of all citizens.
The refusal to sign an agreement on European integration became known on November 21. In addition, the media reported about Kyiv’s decision to join the Customs Union. The refusal to sign the agreement provoked mass protests throughout the country. In Kyiv, protests on Independence Square have already degenerated several times into clashes with the police, as a result of which dozens of people were injured.
