Moscow will perpetuate the memory of all Soviet leaders

The head of the Moscow Culture Department, Sergei Kapkov, said that in Moscow they would immortalize all the leaders of the USSR.

We are talking about the restoration of previously dismantled monuments and memorial boards, as well as the installation of new ones, Kapkov explained, speaking today, December 19, at the opening ceremony of a memorial plaque at the house of Leonid Brezhnev, Brani.ru reports.

According to the official, Brezhnev did a lot for the country.

When asked about the possible installation of the monument to Stalin Kapkov replied that the name of this historical figure was “sufficiently immortalized in Moscow” and a tombstone on Red Square is enough.

The singer and State Duma deputy from United Russia, Joseph Kobzon, who spoke at the ceremony, spoke out for the installation of the monument to Stalin and the return of the monument to Felix Dzerzhinsky to Lubyanka.

Also, the State Duma deputy from United Russia Alexander Khinshtein and Senator Vladimir Dolgikh, a former candidate for the Politburo of the CPSU Central Committee, participated in the opening ceremony.

On the eve of the installation of the board, Khinshtein said: “Democracy and tolerance suggest that the memorial boards of Brezhnev and Sakharov can calmly adjust to one city.” He also noted that Brezhnev "has great merits to our country."

The board is open on the 107th anniversary of the birth of Brezhnev. This is a copy of the board previously installed on house 26 on Kutuzovsky Prospekt, and shot in 1991. Yuri Andropov lived in the same house. A board is also installed in his memory on the building, but unlike the memorable sign Brezhnev, it was not dismantled.
