Angela Merkel, the other day for the third time fixing the chair of the German Chancellor, does not exclude the opportunity to come to the Winter Olympics in Sochi. The final decision has not yet been made, they say in the apparatus of the head of Germany, but there is such a probability. If Frau Merkel nevertheless cuts in his working schedule for several days to visit Sochi games, then this trip will be her first visit to one of the most significant world sporting events as a chancellor.
“For eight years as a chancellor, I have never been to any Olympic Games or in any country. Nevertheless, I have not yet resolved and I’ll think about this issue again,” the Izvestia newspaper Merkel, received from the press secretary of the German government, Annakatrin Gebauer.
Even if the head of Germany himself cannot come to Russia, members of the federal government will undoubtedly be presented at celebrations, the clerk spokesman added. "At the last winter games, the Minister of the Interior represented Germany, there was also a Minister of Defense. There is no doubt that this time the federal minister will represent Germany," the interlocutor of the publication said.
It is worth noting that earlier several Western politicians immediately announced the impossibility of their presence at the Games in Sochi, including Germany President Joachim Gauk and French President Francois Hollande .
The American President Barack Obama will also not come to Sochi, instead he sends a delegation led by the former Minister of National Security, Junet Napolitano. Many Russian and Western media previously saw in this decision of the American leadership the desire to "annoy" the Russian authorities. The fact is that the US delegation will include the famous athletes that do not hide their homosexual orientation, for example, Billy Jin King and Caitlin Kakau.
According to the representative of the White House of the Jin Inoui, the US delegation "represents the diversity of American society." "He (Obama) knows that athletes from the United States will demonstrate the best aspects of American society to the whole world - its diversity, determination and team interaction," said an employee of the presidential apparatus.
At the same time, the White House spokesman Jay Carney assured: the President’s decision to include representatives of sex minorities in the government delegation is not a hint of Russia at all, just American society is so diverse, and the composition of the delegation reflects this.
