In Egypt, the police conducted raids at NPOs and arrested its employees

In Egypt last night, the police raided the office of the non -governmental organization Center for Economic and Social Rights and arrested three of its employees. Several computers were confiscated. It is reported by France-Presse.

The Center for Economic and Social Rights was founded by the former presidential candidate Halid Ali, representing the interests of left -wing forces. NPOs advocated in support of striking workers and defended the rights of activists in the courts.

The Egyptian authorities resumed the verification of the activities of some non-governmental organizations after the removal of President-Ismist Muhamed Mursi from the authorities in July. Yesterday, for the first time, a raid was held in an NPO, not related to the Islamists.

In 2011, the police conducted inspections in a number of foreign NPOs, after the prosecutors accused them of illegal financing abroad. 43 employees of these organizations were sentenced to various prison terms from one to five years.
