The ceiling collapsed in the London Theater

On Thursday, December 19, during the performance at the Apollo Theater in the London West End, part of the ceiling fell on a balcony with spectators. More than 70 people were injured.

According to The Guardian , seven of them received serious injuries. In total, about 700 spectators attended the evening performance on the book of Mark Haddon “The mysterious night murder of a dog”.

After the fragments of the ceiling fell onto the balcony, it also partially collapsed. The crack of a breakdown balcony did not alert the audience, since it was accepted for the noise effect that accompanying the performance.

Some of the spectators could not leave the theater building on their own, they were released by firefighters who arrived at the scene. The victims were transferred in the lobby of the Korolev Theater located nearby, where the temporary hospital was deployed. From there they were transported to hospitals, and the group of the wounded was delivered by a regular flight bus, accompanied by a police escort.

According to the ambulance service, 76 people received injuries of varying severity, reports Sky News .

The Apollo Theater building was built in 1901. The reasons for the collapse have not yet been established, an investigation is carried out. The London police deny the possibility of a terrorist act.
