Mikhail Khodorkovsky press center KhodorkovskyMikhail Khodorkovsky appeared in public-on the eve of the first press conference of the disgraced businessman after his sudden release after a ten-year imprisonment. Before that, he still managed to give a great interview to the chief editor of The New Times, Evgenia Albats.
If someone was expecting stunning revelations from the former head of Yukos, the former owner of “factories, newspapers, steamboats”, one of the richest people in the country, then he was disappointed. For the public appeared a rather neat, weighing every word man. No accusations against the current government, Vladimir Putin, Igor Sechin and other Putin people. And just five years ago, he spoke completely differently. “Sechin organized the first case against me from greed, and the second - from cowardice. How exactly he managed to convince his boss, I do not know. Maybe Putin really thought that I was thinking some kind of political coup, which was ridiculous, because at that time I openly supported two opposition parties, which at best could get 15% in parliamentary elections. More likely, they did not need some reason - just a preposition for an attack on Yukos, the most successful oil company in Russia, ”he said in an interview with Sunday Times.
“Putin knocks out the authorities of his part of the spectrum,” is perhaps the hardest statement of Mikhail Khodorkovsky in an interview with Albats. And to the direct question about how much Putin will be in power, he only replied that the law allows Putin to be in power for another 10 years. “Dear gentlemen, I do not have a reliable answer to this question. I do not know all the facts. The fact that any of you can familiarize yourself with (it is a public fact) is that on February 19, 2003, a meeting was held with President Putin, where a rather tough conversation took place (it was recorded by television companies and is still available on the Internet), two weeks after this meeting against Yukos’s employees, the first criminal case was opened. Here is the fact that I know. Everything else is speculation for me, ” - this is how he commented on his landing.
“I was aware of a big business that I was engaged in gesture games. In relation to me, cruelty was expanded. But at the same time, it should be noted that this situation did not affect my family. And this allowed me not to perceive this confrontation too emotionally. I set up these relations in the framework of pragmatics, ” - that’s all that he said about the attitude to Putin. And even the disease and death does not bother him, noting only that he knows the perpetrators, but he will not be called publicly without sufficient evidence.
Well, the statement that “the war does not end until at least one soldier returned home” - this is Khodorkovsky about Pichugin, the ex -head of Yukos security officers. “For me, it would be arrogant to tell experienced Western politicians how to behave with such a difficult person who is the president of my country. I hope that the politicians of Western countries, communicating with Putin will remember that I am not the last political prisoner in Russia, ”is Khodorkovsky at a press conference.
He also spoke out for the territorial integrity of Russia and against the department of the North Caucasus, since “two steps” will lead to “millions of victims”. And he is ready to personally go to the Caucasian war. “This is our land, we conquered it,” Khodorkovsky noted, de facto supporting the Putin Caucasian policy.
He also stated that he does not intend to engage in politics and business. “I forbade myself to think about what I would do at large. I needed to maintain psychological stability. The question of business is closed to me, I do not want to spend time on this. The issue of politics is also not worth it - I do not want to occupy a completely frank position on many issues. I got the right not to say what I do not think. It is worth a lot, ”Khodorkovsky said. But he promised to make efforts that there were no political prisoners in Russia. "The struggle for power is not mine, but even to decide it is not for me."
It is on this that he does not plan to engage in politics - and Russian television propagandists emphasized. Even they could not ignore the press conference of Khodorkovsky, but they described everything in their own way. “Before the press conference at Checkpoint Charlie, the journalists for some reason almost got parted, and then saw a not-so-exhausted prisoner, but who was in excellent shape and dressed from a needle of Mikhail Khodorkovsky, who told the family during all this time there were no threats, that he did not plan to engage in business or politics,”-he voted into The broadcast of "Vesti of the Week" Dmitry Kiselev.
It is clear why he was almost silent-he himself explained this at a press conference. Just sitting or potential sites in cases related to Yukos, make him be silent about a lot. He did not even say whether he would return to Russia - he limited himself to phrases that he was not sure that if he returned, he would be able to leave the country again.
The prison changes man - he can go broken and frightened. This did not happen to Mikhail Khodorkovsky, but he behaves very carefully. Eduard Limonov also behaved about after leaving prison: it seems to be the same unbending person, but obviously not wanting to return to the prison.
So so far there are no loud revelations from Khodorkovsky, at least for now. There will be no revenge, at least not now. There will be no political activity, it will definitely not be in the near future. He still thinks. As he thinks, we must find out, we will find out.
