
In Moscow, a coordinated rally against paid parking was held at the metro station of the 1905 metro station, RIA Novosti reports. About 300 people took part in the action.
The rally participants demanded to introduce a moratorium on expanding the paid parking area for six months. During the action, signatures were collected for holding a citywide referendum on paid parking issues.
On Wednesday, the paid parking area increased to the garden ring. The head of the Department of Transport and Development of Road Transport Infrastructure of Moscow, Maxim Liksutov, said that the number of cars within the garden ring decreased by about 5 percent on this day.
On December 18, the Moscow City Duma approved the initiative to hold a referendum on paid parking in the center of the capital. The decision on the compliance of referendum issues by the legislation was adopted by the capital's parliament immediately in the first reading and in general.
“The issues of referendum do not contradict the law. They are extremely important for Muscovites. We admit that these issues can be submitted to the referendum and send their resolution to the Moscow City Superior,” said Tatyana Portnova, head of the Moscow City Duma Commission and local government.
During the meeting, the head of the Moscow City Woman Valentin Gorbunov said that the referendum may be appointed on a single voting day in September 2014. Earlier, a member of the Mosgorisburkom Rome Kuznetsova noted that the initiative group can be registered until the end of December.

On the same day, about 50 motorists went to Yakimanka to the gathering against paid parking lots in the center of Moscow. They advocated a moratorium on expanding the paid parking area and against raising tariffs.
On November 16, activists of the Russian car owners federation held a picket at the building of the Moscow Department of Transport with a demand to transfer the terms for expanding the area of paid parking in the city center as of June 1, 2014. About 100 people took part in the picket.
