The Croatian police arrested on Wednesday the former national intelligence leader Josip Pokovich, which is issued by Germany.
Perkovich is accused of involvement in the murder of one of the Croatian dissidents in 1983. The crime was allegedly organized by the Yugoslav intelligence services, for which Percovich worked in the 1980s.
Its detention became possible thanks to the amendments to the legislation on extraditions that entered into force in Croatia on January 1, which the EU leadership insisted. Prior to this, Croatia, who joined the European Union in July last year, rejected the possibility of issuing Percovich, referring to the norm of local law prohibiting such a transfer.
Whether the ex-employee of the Yugoslav special services will be extradited and how long will all the necessary procedures take is not yet known.
