Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the new Mariinsky Theater building in St. Petersburg and visited the rehearsals of the combined children's choir of Russia, which will perform at the closing ceremony of the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi. The president also congratulated the writer Daniil Granin on the 95th anniversary.

Arriving at the Mariinsky Theater, Putin met with Valery Gergiev, the artistic director of the combined children's choir. After that, together with the Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets, the president listened to several songs performed by the choir, including: "Let there always be the Sun", "Orlates learn to fly." For the president, the children also performed a song that the guests of the Olympics at the closure ceremony will hear, RIA Novosti reports.

Note that the choir was formed according to the results of a professional jury contest of thousands of children from all regions of the Russian Federation. The choir will rehearse in St. Petersburg from January 2 to 11 and in Sochi from February 16 to 24. It is planned that the children's choir will also record the phonogram of the final song of the Winter Olympic Games. The record will be held at the Mariinsky Theater on January 9.

“I am very surprised that such a number of young people and so coolly perform works that all of us are known. The thousandth choir sounds like one tool. I congratulate you,” Putin said. He assured that the authorities will develop choral art in all Russian regions, ITAR-TASS reports.

It is assumed that the children's choir of Russia will become a permanent team and will take part in the largest domestic cultural projects, festivals and competitions, as well as in international events. “This choir is created for the country, for Russian culture, for the national musical tradition. We plan to perform this choir, let it vary its quantitative composition - the guys can be a thousand, five hundred, three hundred, but they represent all the regions of Russia and they sing great,” said Hour Hoora, Valery Gergiev.

During a visit to St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin came to the writer Daniil Granin home and congratulated him on the past 95 years , handing the writer the Order of Alexander Nevsky, Interfax reports.
