Russia repeatedly blocked the adoption of the UN Security Council resolution on Syria

For the second time in a month, Russia blocked the adoption by the UN Security Council of a resolution on the situation in the Syrian city of Aleppo. It is reported by ITAR-TASS with reference to a source at the headquarters of the international organization.

In the draft document, which was introduced by the UK, the actions of the troops of the dictator Bashar al -Assad were condemned. The Russian delegation considered the resolution of the "unbalanced" and proposed to criticize the actions of the armed opposition. This did not suit the British, and after a day they removed the document from consideration.

On December 18, the United States made a project of a similar resolution. American diplomats, referring to media reports and data from human rights activists, noted the use of weapons of an indiscriminate action by the Syrian authorities, in particular Skyd missiles and barrel bombs with explosives, striking elements and combustible fluids dumped from a helicopter. The Russian Foreign Ministry later stated that the Moscow delegation proposed "a number of constructive amendments to the text of the document in order to give it a more balanced nature." Nevertheless, the Americans rejected the amendments and withdrew the project.

On December 15, Assad forces began to apply massive airlines along Aleppo. According to human rights organizations, over 700 people were killed, about 3 thousand were injured. According to the Syrian government, the operation was directed against the rebels who control a significant part of the city.

The war in Syria has been going on since March 2011. According to the data of the Syrian Supervisory Board of Human Rights, by November 2013, the total number of victims of the conflict exceeded 120 thousand people .
