The Severodvinsk shipbuilding enterprise Sevmash will lay down two new Project 955A Borei strategic nuclear submarines in 2014, RIA Novosti reports , citing a source in the military-industrial complex. The laying of the ships will be timed to coincide with the holidays: Submariner Day on March 19 and Russian Navy Day, which is celebrated on the last Sunday in July.

According to the agency's source, the tradition of naming the Borei project submarines the names of Russian princes will continue. It is not specified what names the new ships will receive. The construction of Project 955A submarines is carried out within the framework of the Russian state arms program for 2011-2020, which provides for the acceptance of eight ships of this type into the Navy.

The lead ship of the Borei project, Yuri Dolgoruky, was adopted by Russia on January 10, 2013 and became part of the Northern Fleet. The acceptance into the Russian Navy of the first production submarine of Project 955 ─ Alexander Nevsky ─ took place on December 23, 2013; she is assigned to the Pacific Fleet. The second serial submarine ─ Vladimir Monomakh ─ is currently undergoing testing, and the third ─ Prince Vladimir ─ is being built at Sevmash.

The displacement of the Borey project submarines is 24 thousand tons. The ships are capable of carrying 16 R-30 Bulava-30 ballistic missiles. In addition, the submarine cruisers are equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes.
