In Saudi Arabia, unknown people fired at the car of the German Embassy. As a result, the car caught fire. Employees of the embassy were not injured, reports ITAR-TASS.

The German Foreign Ministry confirms the information about the shelling in the east of Saudi Arabia of the car, in which there were two German diplomats, RIA Novosti reports with reference to the representative of the FRG foreign policy.

The incident occurred in the city of Al-Avami.

“The car was fired and caught fire,” the interlocutor of the agency admitted. “Nobody was injured. The German embassy in Riyadh along with the competent departments of Saudi Arabia is engaged in the clarification of the circumstances of the incident.”

From more detailed comments, the representative of the Foreign Ministry refrained.

The representative of the Saudi police, for his part, called the incident a rather rare incident for al-Avamia, Reuters notes. At the same time, the agency continues, this city, as well as other settlements of the Katifa district, have not known the world since 2011 due to the confrontation between Shiites with the Sunnis. So, at least 20 people died when Shiite youth took to the streets, protesting against oppression from the Sunni majority.

Shiites are accused of the government in which the Sunnis prevail in the connivance of discrimination. Those, of course, reject the accusations. In 2012, the authorities ordered 23 people in the Eastern province, to which Al-Avamiy belongs and where most of the Shiites-given kingdom lives. According to the authorities, it was these people who sowed the turmoil in society.

Nine people remain on the list on the list. The rest were either already detained or killed, someone surrendered to the police.
