Biology and medicine have always been something like a hobby for me, so I enthusiastically took the discovery of the specialty “Medical Physics” at our university. However, according to the curriculum, special courses related to medicine appear only in the fourth year of training. In such circumstances, examples of a biological nature should be given everywhere where it is possible, without waiting from students of puzzled issues such as "When will we learn at least something medical?"
The most suitable sources of material, containing, along with qualitative discussion and quantitative assessments, three books appeared to me, the first of which was at my disposal from childhood and brought a lot of pleasure at one time.
Completely for children
Book E.A. Beznyzhnye and I.S. The Brikman “Physics in Living Nature and Medicine” [1] was quite widespread to Ukraine. It is represented by a kind of biomedical support for the school physics school, also recommended for medical schools and junior courses of biofaces and medical institutes. Despite the “children's” style and the fact that part of the material is outdated, you can get a lot of useful things from the book. For example, the principle of classic, that is, non -memorial, tomography (due to its low cost, such tomographs are still used in domestic anti -tuberculosis medical institutions). Apparently, many readers share my high appreciation of this book: the request in the search engine shows that now it is now
It is included in the lists of additional literature for medical students.
For "advanced"
Book K.Yu. Bogdanova “Physicist visiting a biologist” [2] is the 49th release of the Kwant Library series. The scientific level of these books does not need recommendations, the only drawback is the continuation of the advantages: the books of this series, formally oriented to senior students, are somewhat complicated for their perception. Regardless of the year of the publication, I met them noticeably later than school age (such books are surprisingly good as entertaining reading in the breaks between the studies of quantum theory of field theory and plasma physics).
Specifically, the book [2] in an accessible and entertaining form covers the majority of topics related to “common biophysics”: electrical, optical and acoustic phenomena in living organisms, respiratory biophysics, mechanics of the musculoskeletal system and circulatory dynamics. The use of this material is in the course of general physics simply begs. But if in this case some preparatory work is still required of the teacher, then in the next book it has already been carried out from today's review.

Book J.B. Marion “General Physics with Biological Examples” [3] is an introductory course of physics for students, in whom he will be the first and last, designed for one year and not using higher mathematics. For the specification of the target audience, students of applied medical and biological specialties were chosen, including future doctors (some realities of the preparation of American premiums with a characteristic mild humor were described by the physicist and blogger Traveller2 [4]).
The textbook itself is written in a fairly standard manner, a few dry than a similar introductory course in J. Orira, which I wrote about earlier [5], and with a large number of technical details. The “highlight” of the Marion course is precisely these biological examples - one (or more) section in each chapter, with its own tasks (and even a separate list of answers at the end of the book).
In total, these sections make up about 13% of the total textbook, and you can read them regardless of the main text (which is emphasized in the original English title of Jerry B. Marion “General Physics with Bioscience Essays”). Here is a complete list of these sections (a hypothetical doctor who reached all the tasks for them, causes me a sense of admiration):
1. The scaling and sizes of objects (an extremely unsuccessful translation of the title, in fact, we are talking about simple assessments that reveal the influence of the size of the body on the lifestyle of animals).
2. Running speeds.
3. Length in length from the run.
4. Forces breaking bones during jumping.
5. Distribution of mass in the human body.
6. Bone hood systems.
7. Forces acting on the muscles and bones.
8. Artificial gravity.

26. The biological effect of radiation radiation on people.
The books of Marion and Bogdanov are surprisingly in harmony with each other both in the subject and in terms of presentation. Outdoors in one year, these two books mutually complement each other, often explaining the same (for example, the theory of the spread of a nervous impulse) in somewhat different words. After their study, the student may well form a certain holistic idea of how the laws of physics in a living organism “work”.
And what do we have?
The book [3], written for American premises, leads NAC to the issue of teaching physics to domestic medical students. Not being a specialist, I will refrain from evaluating existing guidelines, programs and teaching practice. Instead, I would like to call on colleagues in conjunction physics-medicine, share experience and express my judgments about what physics (if necessary?) Medical students and what physicists are needed (if necessary?) In modern Russian medicine.
