Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi at 21
35 years ago, on January 16, 1979, in Iran, during the Islamic Revolution, led by Ayatollah Khomeini, Shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi was overthrown. He fled to Egypt. From there, the shah, so formally and did not renounce the throne, went to Morocco, then to the Bagams and further to Mexico. The new Iranian authorities demanded his issuance. England refused the Shah at the entrance, fearing to worsen relations with Tehran.
When in November 1979, the Shah arrived at treatment in the United States (a malignant tumor was discovered), this provoked the seizure of the American embassy in Iran. Mohammed Reza Pahlavi moved to Panama, and from there to Egypt, where he died on July 27, 1980 at the age of 60.
