2012, two detectives from Louisiana - an overgrown alcoholic with the eyes of a drug addict, Rast Cole (Matthew McConahi) and the blurry healthy man Martin Hart (Woody Harrelson) - are told by unfriendly colleagues (apparently from the FBI) about the main investigation in their career. From the cross interrogation it becomes clear that investigators have not communicated with each other for ten years. And before the disagreement, almost the same amount was hunted together for a criminal who terrorized a whole state. The first sacrifice, a young prostitute, the maniac took to the swamps, the section, hoisted the crown of horns on her head and tied in the pose of the chapel to the tree. When the detectives found the girl, she was dead. The eldest, Hart, first thought about his wife (too beautiful for the support of Michelle Monagan) and two small daughters. The youngest, Cole, first thought that the killer was a real artist, and he could well be a critic. Something went out in Hart's eyes. In the eyes of Cole - caught fire.
Breeded, low, dead-eyed plant in the police-like a Lermontov officer in the Caucasus: a gloomy fatalist, a chujak hero, an intellectual with the right to kill. In his background, Martin seems to be an ordinary cope - honest, smart, hardworking, but clumsy. In fact, he simply has not yet begun, in the terminology of Joseph Conrad, a journey into the heart of his own darkness. And Rast, who lost his family and sleep and addicted to drugs, has already begun. The series has eight hourly episodes, so it is scary to imagine what the speed of self -destruction these two in the finale will reach.
Screenwriter Nick Pizzolatto (author of the American version of the Murder) and director Carey Fukunaga (director Jane Air) wrote and shot the first season without shifters and partners. For the series, this is a rarity: usually a whole hive of a scribbler and several directors are working on it.
Something went out in Hart's eyes. In the eyes of Cole - caught fire.
Pizzolatto and Fukunaga (what surnames, such ideas) opened in Louisian the ominous unknown land are akin to the neighboring Texas fields of death. Fields are by no means a fictional attraction. In bloodthirsty swamps, mystical potential is no worse than in a sleepy hollow, only the evil living in them is real: girls regularly disappear in Texas. And the point is not only in crime, but also in the very place: even the Indians drove here two hundred years ago became cannibals.
Of course, where is evil - there is a movie.
In the search for missing girls, filmmakers have already set off. Director Amy Kaanan Mann, daughter of Michael Mann, as well as actors Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Sam Wartington, Jessica Chastein and Chloe Motz. The sortie ended with the show of "Fields of Death" at the Venice Film Festival and the complete failure of the film by criticism. Director Michael Winterbott also attempted to unravel the ominous secret of Texas in the “killer inside me”, where, among other things, Casey Affleck slapped Jessica Alba on naked pope, but even to look at it boring. Only Kormak McCarthy was able to write something alive about Texas-but his heroes “the old people are not a place” and “adviser” deal with evil that is happening according to human will. The authors of the “real detective” are clearly interested in another: a twilight zone spreading its sticky web, into which bold and strong people fall on the duty of the service.
The Louisiana they invented on the metaphysical map of America would like to place not only next to the “fields of death”, but also near the “Malholland-Drive” and “Twin Pixation”.
It is terrible to imagine what the speed of self -destruction these two in the finale will reach.
And the detective mechanisms involved in the series are drawn to compare with the Finchera Zodiac. This thriller is not about chases and shootings, but about gallons of coffee, thousands of miles of roads, endless interrogations and exhausted notebooks. It seems that the purpose of the authors is to tighten the viewer into the routine of detective work, to force to completely synchronize their feelings with the feelings of the heroes is to miss when they are bored; to break away when they break off; In general, dissolve in this nightmare with them.
“Real Detective” - of those rare series that require maximum concentration. It is worth distracting for a second, and the fragile magic of a large (very large) drama evaporates somewhere. One SS, one trip to the kitchen - and that's it, the series deleys you from friends. But it is worth establishing a trusting relationship with him, and he will be erase from your memory everything that you had previously watched about detectives and maniacs, even shot by Fritz Lang himself.
You can talk about how wonderful Matthew McConahi here for a long time. But everyone talks about him-in connection with his incredible creative mobilization in recent years (in Killer Joe, Made and the Dallas Club of Buyers): apparently, his time was finally received to get Oscar. If nevertheless they don’t give, prizes that a “real detective” will receive in a year will cover part of moral costs.
The series started on HBO with a good indicator for the cable channel - 2.33 million spectators: this is more than the premiere of the “Game of Thrones”. True, the “detective” does not have such a potential as under popular fantasy: meditative thrillers about elusive killers - a specific genre. However, the channel believes in the success of the series and has already announced the anthology on its basis. In the next season there will be other crimes and other detectives - no less starry. But now it is clear that soon we will begin to miss this: disheveled Matthew and puffy Woody.
