The FSIN published the first statistics: 2 thousand people were released

A month after the announcement of the amnesty dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Constitution, almost 2 thousand people were released from institutions of the criminal correctional system. Such data was published today by the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). For comparison: under the economic amnesty that the Duma announced in July last year, about 1.5 thousand people have been released so far.

The State Duma adopted the amnesty resolution on December 17, 2013. The amnesty will last six months. The results for the first month were published by the press service of the Federal Penitentiary Service . According to the department, 1,962 people were released from criminal correctional institutions. Of these, the majority - 1,626 people - are registered with the penal inspections. 132 people were able to leave correctional colonies, and another 18 people were released from educational institutions. 167 people were also amnestied; criminal cases against them were dropped; the courts stopped imposing punishment on another 19.

The amnesty has already touched upon high-profile cases. At the end of last year, members of the Pussy Riot group Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina were able to take advantage of the amnesty. In addition, the following persons involved in the “Bolotnaya case” were amnestied: Nikolai Kavkazsky, Maria Baronova, Leonid Kovyazin, Vladimir Akimenkov, Fyodor Bakhov, Anastasia Rybachenko, Dmitry Altaychinov. The relevant committee of the State Duma told Kommersant that unified statistics on the progress of applying the amnesty will be collected closer to the end of January.

For comparison: as of January 9, 2014, 1,658 people were able to take advantage of the economic amnesty that the State Duma announced in July last year (this figure includes both released prisoners and those under trial or investigation).

How amnesty got busy

As part of the amnesty, the court stopped criminal proceedings in December against four defendants in the Bolotnaya case, accused of participating in and calling for mass riots. At the same time, two of those arrested were released from custody in the courtroom. In addition, the persons involved in two more high-profile cases were included in the amnesty: 30 Greenpeace activists, as well as members of the Pussy Riot punk group Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina. How the amnesty gained momentum

On December 18, the State Duma announced an amnesty dedicated to the twentieth anniversary of the Constitution.
