
The State Duma adopted the statement "On the exacerbation of the situation in Ukraine", which accused the West of promoting the escalation of the conflict. It is reported by RIA "Novosti". The draft document, prepared by the CIS Affairs Committee on the proposal of Speaker Sergey Naryshkin, was entered in the lower house on Tuesday.
"The State Duma calls for foreign political circles, which, in violation of international law, intervene in the internal affairs of sovereign Ukraine, to stop the assistance of further escalation of the conflict," the statement said.
The document also expresses support for the decisions of the Russian leadership to allocate a stabilization loan to Ukraine and reduce gas prices "without political conditions to support the fraternal Ukrainian people."
All the Duma factions, except for the LDPR, advocated the adoption of the application. The leader of this party, Vladimir Zhirinovsky, explained that he was opposed to any financial support of foreign countries. “We will not vote,” he said. “The LDPR principle: never help anyone.”
The day before, the head of the Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, said that protest actions in Ukraine are "stimulated from abroad." According to him, the Western countries "are trying to provoke violence" in Ukraine and "interested in chaos." Lavrov called "indecent" and "unceremonious" behavior of European leaders who came to the Maidan.
“I would not like to support provocative conversations about the bidder of Ukraine,” the minister said. “Russia does everything to help prevent this and stabilize the situation. We will continue to act in this way.”
“The main thing is the reason for these protests?” Lavrov remarked. “The fact that the government completely, within the framework of its authority and competence, has decided not to sign or paraphy with the EU. And what kind of howl has risen!”
