The library found Dreiser dangerous for children

In the Omsk State Regional Scientific Library. A.S. Pushkin teenagers refused to issue books by Theodore Drayzer and Boris Vasiliev due to age-related restrictions.

According to 16-year-old schoolgirls, they never received a Dreiser, and Vasiliev’s story “Tomorrow was a war”, the library staff issued them after a long meeting, the Omsk-Inform information portal reports.

The library refused to comment. The actions of its employees, apparently, are explained by the desire to fulfill the requirements of the 2012 law "On the protection of children from information causing harm to their health and development."

According to this law, the category of “18+” includes information that encourages harm to its health and take drugs that denies family values, justifying violence and illegal behavior containing obscene abuse or pornography.

In November, information appeared that the Prosecutor's Office of the Stavropol Territory demands to remove literature harmful to children from school libraries, including Nabokov and Yesenin. The prosecutor’s office denied this information, and the prosecutor’s office, who told the press about the seizure of books “not compatible with the tasks of the educational process,” was dismissed for arbitrariness.
