This work is recognized as the best photograph of 2013 and was awarded the first award in the category of "Actual Topics".
Among the prize -winners of this year there are Russian photographers: Danila Tkachenko and Nikita Shokhov were awarded, respectively, the first and third awards in serial nominations of the “staged portrait” category, and the Norilsk series of Elena Chernoshova received the “daily life” section.

The competition was attended by authors of photographs and series of photographs shot during 2013. The holders of prizes in nine categories were determined by the jury, which was headed by the photographer and co -founder of the British photo agency VII Gary Knight this year.
The winner in the main nomination receives 10 thousand euros and a digital single -object mirror camera Canon , winners in other nominations - one and a half thousand euros. The participants in the competition, who took second and third places, as well as awarded special mention of the jury, are awarded the prizes of the “golden eye” and honorary diplomas.
The works marked by the prizes will be published in the annual World Press Photo , on the competition website, and are also shown at the World Press Photo 2014 exhibition, which will open in April in Amsterdam. From there, the exhibition will go on an annual round -the -world trip and visit more than 100 cities in dozens of countries.
