A comic book on remark is released in Germany

German artist Peter Aikmeier finishes work on the graphic novel by Roman Erich Maria Remarca "On the Western Front without Changes." She will go to print in May, shortly before the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the First World War.

According to ITAR-TASS , Aikmeyer prepared 170 illustrations. To understand the topic, according to the artist, it was not enough just to read the novel. Together with his wife, he visited, for example, in the Belgian IPRA - one of the most important points of the Western Front, where chemical weapons were used for the first time in history in 1915.

“In Flanders and in the north of France, there are still many places that are a piece of that war. - says Peter Aikmeyer. “We visited various museums telling about the events of those years, the cemeteries where the remains of fallen warriors were buried, we were examined by partially preserved trenches.”

It was important for the artist with his own eyes to see all the details of uniforms and signs of differences, weapons, landscape.

Aikmeyer began work on the graphic novelly in 2009. He did not plan to release it precisely on the 100th anniversary of the First World War, but he was played into the hands of the protracted negotiations with the University of New York, which is the trustee of the inheritance of Remarque. Only when all the legal nuances were settled, the book was put into print.
