© 20th Century Fox Frame from the movie "Treasure Hunters"The science representative of the President of the Russian Federation on International Cultural Cooperation Mikhail Shvydka said that George Clooney’s film “The Monument Men Hunters”, which goes on rent today, February 20, is offensive to the Russian viewer.
“In the film“ Treasure Hunters ”, Russians are absolutely offensive - gloomy idiots acting exclusively on the principle of“ Brebty loot! ” And exporting to the USSR everything that the Germans rejected for the Second World War throughout Europe, ” Interfax quoted the Shvydky as saying.
Clooney’s film tells about the international detachment of museum workers and art historians who save cultural values and monuments from the Nazis. Such a detachment was really created in 1944, it included 345 people, among whom, in particular, were the founder of New York City Ballet Lincoln Kirstein, Museum of the University of Harvard Museum George Staut and James Roririmer from the New York Metro Museum.
In the "Treasure Hunters" the detachment consists of seven people. In addition to the Clooney himself, Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Gudman, Jean Duzharden, Kate Blanchett starred in the film. The picture has many episodes in which Soviet soldiers act, taking trophy values to the USSR.
Shvydka believes that such films cannot be shown in Russia without a special cover clarification. “I don’t urge this film to ban this film in any case, but if the children and youth watch this film without some preliminary clarification, they will have a misunderstanding idea of who won the war, they will think that the Americans won the second world and brought all the brightest to Europe,” the president’s special representative emphasized.
He recalled that reality was more complicated. “The whole story was much more tragic and dramatic, everything was more complicated. The Soviet captured teams were not guided by gloomy idiots, as shown by Clooney, but competent people who knew what they were doing. And although the film has the phrase “Russians have lost 20 million, we must understand their logic of behavior”, the entire ideology of the film is different: art is higher than any life, because it belongs to eternity, ”said Shvydka.
“I would not want us to make films such as“ Treasure Hunters ”in Russia,” concluded a mile.
