Appeal against the verdict of Vladimir Topekhin

On February 20, the Moscow City Court will consider an appeal against the verdict against the paralyzed Vladimir Topekhin, convicted of fraud. Topekhin's interests are represented by lawyer Svetlana Sidorkina.

Last week, Topekhin was returned from the 20th city hospital in Moscow to SIZO-2 Butyrka.

On January 13, at an offsite hearing in the capital's SIZO-1 "Matrosskaya Tishina", the judge of the Tverskoy District Court of the capital, Tatyana Neverova, sentenced Topekhin to six years of general regime under Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code (fraud on an especially large scale), and also ordered him to pay 10 million rubles for victim's civil action.

Topekhin, 31, was arrested in the summer of 2013. Shortly before his arrest, he crashed in a car, receiving a head injury, as well as damage to the spine and internal organs. In the pre-trial detention center, his condition seriously deteriorated. The prisoner's lower body and arm were taken away.

On November 20, the prisoner was transferred from Butyrka to the Matrosskaya Tishina hospital. There, thanks to his care, his condition improved somewhat. However, on December 4, the patient was placed in the general cell of SIZO-1. “He lies completely naked, without anything, under a prickly blanket,” wrote Anna Karetnikova, a member of the Moscow POC. “He has no panties and T-shirts. The toilet is a hose and a catheter. towel. This is generally a motionless person. "

Topekhin was taken several times for examination to the 20th city hospital, and each time the doctors found no reason to release him.

On December 16, Sidorkina filed a complaint with the ECtHR about the immediate release of Topekhin from custody due to the threat to his life and health. In response, the Strasbourg court demanded that Russia urgently provide information about the detainee's state of health , the conditions of his detention, as well as the amount of medical care he receives.
