Obama met with Dalai Lama

US President Barack Obama met in Washington with the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhists Dalai Lama, living in exile in India.

The conversation passed behind closed doors and was private.

The authorities of China, who consider the Dalai Lama the leader of the Tibetan separatists, warned Washington that the meeting of Obama with him could cause serious damage to bilateral relations.

Before the meeting, the representative of the US National Security Council Kaitlin Haden said that Washington was concerned about the deterioration of the human rights in Tibet.
