Moscow Region Governor Andrei Vorobyov has decided to reward athletes from the Moscow Region who won medals at the Sochi Olympics. This was reported by the Interfax agency, citing the press service of the Governor and the Government of the Moscow Region.

"The athletes have accomplished a great feat, we must definitely recognize their achievements," Interfax quotes the head of the region as saying at a meeting with the leadership of the regional government held on Monday.

According to the decision made by Vorobyov, the distinguished athletes will be given keys to apartments, the governor’s press service noted.

Vorobyov noted that 19 athletes from the Moscow Region took part in the Olympics. Of these, 12 athletes won medals, the regional Ministry of Physical Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs specified.

The department noted that two gold medals were won by Vic Wild (snowboarding), gold and silver by Vladimir Grigoriev (short track), two silver medals by Albert Demchenko (luge) and two bronze medals by Olga Graf (speed skating). Ekaterina Lobysheva and Ekaterina Shikhova also won bronze in speed skating. Ruslan Zakharov (short track) and Alexander Bessmertnykh (skiing) won gold and silver medals, respectively.

Earlier, Tomsk Region Governor Sergei Zhvachkin also encouraged athletes from his region by issuing them certificates for apartments. Despite their defeat at the Olympics, two freestyle skiers, Ekaterina Stolyarova and Anna Mirtova, received the documents.
